Christmas Paddling – Sessions Cancelled

A lot of it going on

Christmas Day falls on a Friday and having consulted with many members we will be making only very slight alterations to our normal Calendar. Please note, due  to new Covid-19 restrictions we have now cancelled some of these events.

Boxing Day – Saturday 26th December – Cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions

The Government’s recently introduced Tier 4 restriction, mean that it would not be legal for us to host this event.

Instead of our normal sessions at Southall and NW10, we will be running a mini-marathon race, suitable for all standards at Southall at 1pm.

The shortest race will be from the School Bridge to Norwood Road Bridge (first bridge) and back, a distance of 1,500 metres.

An intermediate race from School Bridge to North Hyde Lane Bridge (next bridge) and back, which is about 3km.

For more experienced from the School Bridge to the junction with the Paddington Branch at Bulls Bridge and back, which is 6k.

See Map for details, there are no portages, paddlers from other clubs are welcome to attend, but we will need to know in advance so we can ensure that day is Covid-Secure.

For more information please contact us either by email: marathon@thesharks.org.uk or by telephone on 07951 770241.

Friday 1st January – Cancelled Due to uncertainty of Covid-19 restrictions

At present, the Government’s recently introduced Tier 4 restriction, mean that it would not be legal for us to host this event, they are reviewing the restrictions on 31st December 2020, we do not expect any major changes to teh restrictions, but even if they do, it would not be realistic to host this event the following day.

An additional day for paddling at Harefield. We will be running a mini marathon at Harefield open to all paddlers at 1pm, a chance for our slalom paddlers to try something different. There will be three distances:

First race for those in slalom boats or who are comparatively new to the sport, will be from just below Copper Mill Lock (Coy Carp) to Black Jack’s Lock (next one down) and back, total distance is about 2,000 metres.

An intermediate race for those who want more of a challenge is 5.5k and goes down to the second lock and back (Moorfield Road), you need to portage Blackjack’s lock in both directions.

We have our longer race, for those who want to race K1 this goes down beyond Moorfeild Road Lock under the Railway Bridge and to the next Foot Bridge, at this bridge, you get out on the right bank, run over the bridge and get back in on the other bank the bridge will turn you round so to are facing the right way, then paddle back to the start. The total distance is 9.5k, for more details please check out the map.

Paddlers from other clubs are welcome to attend, but we will need to know in advance so we can ensure that day is Covid-Secure.

For more information please contact us either by email: marathon@thesharks.org.uk or by telephone on 07951 770241.
