Harefield Slalom Results

Two new promotees

The Sharks have hosted their third national ranking slalom, attracting over 150 starts over the two days, with Shark paddlers amongst the winners.

The event was a division 4 (entry level) and division 3 slalom and was held on the moving water at the weir near Coppermill Lock, opposite the Coy Carp, whom we would like to thank for their support throughout the year. This is the very sight that Richard Hounslow, Olympic medallist in London and in Rio learnt to canoe.

In the Men’s K1 division 3 event, James Read came 4th (and first Master), pushing for promotion to division 2, Khaleel Zainddin 11th and Joel Gunnery 13th. Catherine Robinson, taking part in her first slalom for several years was 5th in the Ladies’ K1 division 3 event.

The entry for Sunday’s event was slightly larger and the added competition seemed to suit Shark paddlers. In the Men’s Division 4 event Johan Kukkohovi took top spot and winning promotion to National Division 3. Kiara Sheehan was third in the Ladies’ Division 4 event.

Amelia Combes again took the Ladies’ division 3 C1 event, with Catherine Robinson coming 7th in the Ladies K1 Division 3.

The Men’s performance saw dramatic improvements as James Read moved up to second place, leaving him just a few points off of promotion to division 2. Joel Gunnery climbed to 6th with Khaleel Zainddin only just behind in 7th place. Conor Sheehan was 14th.

The Sharks would like to thank, Clancy Docwra, The Canals and Rivers Trust, The Environment Agency, The Coy Carp for there help and support in hosting this event.
