The Sharks play their first Polo match

Last Saturday, saw the first Shark Polo team take to the water at Rickmansworth Aquadrome, playing in the London and South Eastern League division 3.

The Sharks played in three matches on the day,  of 16 minutes (eight minutes each half) each. This was a fast learning curve for the Club and the team, who were a payer short hand had to borrow somebody from Hertfordshire University.

The first one was against St. Albans, who took the lead in the first half but Grant Underwood equalised for the Sharks and the first ever Shark Polo match ended in a one all draw.

By the second match The Sharks were more organised and playing better as a team and drew 2 -2 with host club, Nomads, With Shark goals coming from Grant Underwood and Adam Stewart.

The third batch was against Castle ABBA; a team which had not conceded a goal and had been winning quite handsomely, so when they took an early lead nobody was surprised, but the lead was short lived as Adam Stewart scored for The Sharks, Again Castle ABBA went ahead inly for Rod Grundy to level the score again. Some fine saves from The Sharks goalie kept The Sharks in the match,  till near the end or the game but unfortunately they could not hang on and finally lost 4 – 2.

This was a really good first outing for The Sharks and now we need to build for the future; The next meeting takes place in Tooting on 7th November. If you want to be part of the Team, contact us at: canoeing@thesharks.org.uk. From November The Sharks Polo team will be training every week at Hillingdon Leisure Centre, Uxbridge.

The Team was: Adam Stewart; Grant Underwood; Rod Grundy; Neal Underwood, with thanks to Abi, Josh, Josh and Peter from Hertfordshire University.
