What a Great day!
The Sharks had an amazing day at the Thamesmead Festival on Saturday, hosting a Come and try it day on Southmere Lake, we had over 200 people getting in canoes and kayaks throughout the day.
The day was a stunning success for paddlesport and for the future project as Thamesmead. The Sharks are currently working very closely with Peabody Housing to establish a Club Venue at Southmere Lake in Thamesmead. As part of this project we hosted a free come and try it session alongside the Thamesmead Festival, so we could engage with the local community.
From the feedback we got, this is going to be an amazing venue with a very enthusiastic local population. As well as canoeing and kayaking The Sharks are discussing opening an Open Water Swimming venue at Birchmere lake. We will issue more information as discussions develop, but we are very excited as to what could be on offer, the site offers a very large club house and a lake big enough to develop Sprint racing, we may even have a permanent flat water Slalom area. It would also provide an excellent venue for Canoe Polo.
A big thank you to all the staff involved in Saturday’s event, for making it such a huge success. It was great to see so many happy people having fun on the water.
