The Sharks at Shepperton ’25

Slalom and River Race Weekend 24th -26th May

The Sharks are organising a festival of canoeing over the Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th and Bank Holiday Monday 26th May. Including a ranking Division 3/4 slalom and The London Regional River Race Championships.

A weekend with a difference

We are hosting a Weekend of canoeing at Shepperton, aimed at everyone who wants to get active and have some fun. The weekend will consist of the London Regional River Racing Championship, which is a ranking Regions River Race, and a ranking Division 3 and Division 4 slalom.

On Saturday 24th May

We will host a day of coaching for people in the early stages of their competitive slalom career, we would also welcome more experienced paddlers to come along and practice. There will be a cost for the day of £7.20, which can be paid via canoeslalomentries.co.uk, or on the day by card or cash. the £7.20 will also gain you entry into the River Race.

The Coached slalom sessions will start at 11am and finish at 2pm

At 3pm we will host a Classic ranking Regional River Race, which is also the London Regional Championships, the distance is about 2.5k. Entries for the River Race can be made either through canoeslalomentries.co.uk or via the Wild Water Racing Website; wildwater.org.uk. entries are £7.20 for the whole day.

Prize giving for the River Race will be at its conclusion, each paddler does one run each, although you can do as many classes as you want, all for just one entry fee.

Outside of organised activities the course will be available for free practice.

Sunday 25th May

The Division 3 and 4 ranking slalom will start at noon, from 11am complete runs only will be allowed, but you can practice as much as you like, this is a development event and we want people to learn, have fun, and get plenty of time on the water.

At the conclusion of the individual runs we will host a single run team event at no additional cost.

4pm is the start time for the London Regional Sprint and Ranking River race, approximately 200 metres. Entries for this are included in your slalom entry or the Classic entry fee if you raced on Saturday, otherwise it is £7.20.

The format will enable you to do as many runs as you want, in as many classes as you want, the best two runs in any class will be used for the ranking system, your best run is the one that is counted.

The race will conclude by 6pm at the latest, you will be able to take your runs anytime you want in the two hour window.

Prize giving for slalom and River race will be at the conclusion of the River race.

Outside of event time, there will be free practice.

Monday 26th May

Free practice till 11am, from then till the events starts it will be complete runs only. The Division 3 and 4 ranking slalom will commence at 12 noon. Prize giving will be at the conclusion of both runs.

Directions

The Sharks at Shepperton Slalom, will be held at the home of Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club, we are very grateful for their support, not just in running this event, but for what they do throughout the years. They will be running the catering facilities and we ask you that you make use of them as it all helps to fund the clubs and events.

There will be free camping from Friday evening on the site adjacent to the river.
