Looking to the Future
Racing opportunities were limited in 2017, but we still had some good results and need to build up our squads for 2018 and the Club has some great plans going forward. The season for both Sprint and Marathon ending in September.
Sprint
Our most successful event this year was the London Youth Games. With three Sharks making the Sprint finals. Kiara Sheehan, representing Ealing was the fourth fastest qualifier and came in 6th in the final, her brother Conor was the fastest time of the day in the heats of the boys event but had to settle for bronze in the final. Whilst Joel Gunnery representing Hillingdon, took silver.
Four paddlers raced at National regattas this season: With Conor Sheehan achieving a personal best in both 200m and 500m at the September regatta. Both he and Grant Underwood races in two National Regattas, whilst Adam Stewart and Neal Underwood raced just once.
Marathon
The Sharks did not enter any canoe marathons in 2017, something we we will change for the 2018 season, indeed already have, when three paddlers entered teh Elmbridge Marathon, our first ever ranking marathon.
Big plans are afoot for 2018, with more sessions in more location, making access to these exciting disciplines even easier. For more information contact Neal on 07951 770241 or email neal@thesharks.org.uk.
We will be hosting sessions at Havelock in Southall, Southall Activity Centre, both in the London Borough of Ealing; Osterley Park in the Borough of Hounslow and hopefully Hayes in the Borough of Hillingdon.
