The New Year has got off to a great start for The Sharks at the first Wild Water Race of the year at Barrow-on-Soar, just one month after our success at the same venue.
Joel Gunnery and Conor Sheehan both made their first appearance for The Sharks in Wild Water Racing, stepping up from the Wavehopper series, which they raced last Autumn. Both paddlers did very well on a river that was fast flowing thanks to the recent heavy rain; coming second and third in the under-14 age group respectively. Joel’s time was 17 minutes and 49 seconds, Conor’s 18:36
Grant Underwood took first under-23 in a time of 12:52 and Adam Stewart was second under-23 with a time of 13:46
This was a great start to 2016, following on from the great finish to 2015 where Shark paddlers were amongst the medals at the same venue.
The Sharks will be back at Barrow-on-Soar next month on Saturday February 13th hopefully with a bigger team. This is a great event for entry level paddler, a nice fast flowing river and a very friendly atmosphere: for more information about Wild Water Racing or The Sharks, please contact Neal on 07951 770241 or email: canoeing@thesharks.org.uk.
