Entry Level Wild Water Races
The Barrow-upon-Soar Wild Water Race serries is an ideal place to start River Racing, there are monthly races through the winter of about 3k (1.8miles), there are no rocks, just a twisty flowing stream.
The Club supported the race in November, where a small team picked up some medals, and coaches will be at the race on the race on Saturday December 10th, as well as future races, but we need to know who is going, please contact Neal for more information or to let us know you are racing; either call 07951 770241 or email neal@thesharks.org.uk.
Barrow-upon-Soar is near Loughborough, Leicestershire, it is just over a 100 miles and takes under two hours to drive there. Races start at 11am, we can do a practice run if people want, which means arriving for about 9am (leave at 7am), there is nothing too much to worry about on the course, so can be done without a practice run. Take a look at a previous race report.
The race starts just below the weir, which is a short paddle (warm up) along the canal from where we park. The race is then from the weir, round the loop, as shown on the map and back to where we parked.
You can race in Wild Water Racing boats, or slalom boats, it will be a fun day out, a chance to paddle on some different water and to broaden your experience.
