Bala Slalom Results
A small team of paddlers went to Bala slalom in North Wales on the River Tryweryn.
The River, which is dam controlled, should be able to guarantee water levels, which is why the upper stretches of it have been used for international events including World Championship. However, something went wrong after practice on Saturday and the water disappeared. It came back on mid afternoon and the event was restarted with just one run.
In the Division 3, Men’s K1; James Reed came 7th over ll and first Master. Khaleel Zainddin was 20th and 4th Junior 14. In the Division 2 event; Vawn Humphrey-Wilson, who paddles for Laburnham but had travelled with The Sharks came 9th and fourth J16.
After the event, the water remained on and gave the chance for paddlers to experience paddling on the bigger water higher up the river, a fantastic opportunity, which helps develop skills and confidence as well as being great fun.
On Sunday’s event James was 8th and again first Master, whilst Khaleel 25th and Vawn climbed up to 2nd.
