by Matt Lewis mattlewis@trinitymirror.com
GRANT Underwood has become the first member of Harefield Sharks Canoe Club to reach National Division One in slalom. Underwood achieved the feat after gaining a second place finish in the Tyndale race in Wark, Northumberland, and is the first paddler to make the cut this year.
He was just 0.2 seconds off first place at the event and follows exceptional performances from the canoeist at Matlock and Shepperton earlier this term. Coach Neal Underwood says the club, which holds sessions across west London in Harefield, Southall and Uxbridge, is looking to make a big impression in 2015.
He said: “We are keen to develop the slalom team and have access to a permanent site at Harefield as well as ideal teaching facilities in the outdoor pool at Hillingdon Leisure Centre.
The Sharks are aiming to build the the greateset canoe club in the country and want as many people as possible to be part of it. Sessions are fun and the club is open to people of all ages.
The club provide all the kit you require, you do not need any experience, just a wish to have fun. We enter competitions in Slalom, Sprint, marathon and Wild Water Racing.”
