Cancelled
Please note due to Covid-19 restrictions these events have been cancelled.
Stafford and Stone Canoe Club are proposing to run a mini-slalom league at their site in Stone, Staffordshire in January and February 2021, a chance after nearly a year, to get back to racing.
The events will take place on Sundays 17th and 31st January and Sunday 14th February, obviously these events are subject to Covid-19 restrictions that maybe in place at the time. At present Staffordshire is in tier 3, so traveling their from London, which is tier 2 would not be possible and indeed, running an event in a tier three zone may not be possible. But the tiers are to be reviewed every fortnight, so watch this space.
Stone is a really good course and ideal for all levels of paddler, it has been the home-water for may of Britain’s and indeed the World’s top paddlers over the years, so a chance to enjoy the Stafford and Stone Experience and follow in the footsteps of those we seek to emulate. For more information call 07951 770241 or email: slalom@thesharks.org.uk.
Information from Stafford and Stone CC.
Our last Competitive event, before Lockdown was at Stone, so a logical place to continue from, It would be good to see as many Shark paddlers there as possible, they will be great days out. The site is about 140 miles from Harefield, depending on traffic, but less than a two-and-a-half-hour drive. The Site has changing rooms and catering facilities, although obviously we do not know what restrictions maybe in place regarding those facilities.
We will keep you abreast of the developments regarding these events, present restrictions mean that people will have to make their own way their in their family or support bubbles, however, The Sharks will take all the kit required and have coaches on site to support you in the event. If these events do take place, training at Harefield on those days will be cancelled.
Taking part in these events will help you prepare for a return to ranking competitions which we hope will start in March at, guess where, Stone, so an ideal chance to get some sneak practice in. The 2020 and 2021 seasons have been merged as there were so few events in 2020, so you do not need to re-apply for your bib (assuming you have already applied), as you will be using the same one and any points you have collected, will be carried forward. See where our paddlers are ranked now.
It has been a long time since any of us have raced, getting competition fit is an essential part of preparation, so please keep these dates free so The Sharks can have a good turn out and more importantly a great start to a brighter 2021.
If you are interested in attending, would like more information about Slalom Canoeing, more information about getting involved of joining, please give us a call on 07951 770241 or email: slalom@thesharks.org.uk.
